Bachelorette Party on a Pontoon in Pittsburgh: How to Plan It

October 27, 2026

A bachelorette boat party on Pittsburgh's rivers is simple to pull off: pick a pontoon that fits the whole group, choose a 4 or 8 hour block, line up a sober driver or ask about a captain, and bring the snacks and the playlist. Everything else is skyline, sunshine and photos.

Spring is when next summer's Saturdays start disappearing, so this is the time to plan. Here is how to rent a pontoon boat in Pittsburgh for the bride and her crew, from headcount to sunset timing, without any surprises on the day.

Pick a Boat That Fits the Whole Group

Our pontoons carry 7 to 10 people depending on the boat, and everyone counts toward that number, including the bride, the driver and anyone who swears they will just stand at the back. Count your final guest list before you book, not the hopeful one.

  • Up to 7 people fit on any boat in the fleet, including the Sea-Doo Switch.
  • A group of 8 fits the Sweet Water Godfrey or anything larger, and a group of 9 fits the Sun Tracker Party Barge or either 10 seat boat.
  • A full 10 needs the Bennington S or the Sun Tracker Party Barge 20DLX.
  • For 11 or more, book two pontoons and cruise side by side.

4 Hours or 8 Hours?

Rentals run in 4 hour and 8 hour blocks, any start time between 9 AM and 9 PM. For a bachelorette boat party the choice usually comes down to what else is on the itinerary.

A 4 hour block is plenty for a cruise to the Point, a stop for photos under the bridges, an hour anchored in the sun and a run back to the dock. It leaves the evening open for dinner and a night out. Book it for the late afternoon and you get golden hour and sunset in the same rental.

An 8 hour block turns the boat into the whole day: a slow morning on the Ohio, lunch anchored off a quiet bank, the skyline tour in the afternoon and sunset on the way home. It suits groups who want to anchor up, stretch out in the sun and really unplug rather than squeeze the river in between other plans.

Who Drives the Bachelorette Boat Party

Someone has to be the designated driver, and on the water that is not a joke. The driver stays sober for the whole rental, and the Fish and Boat Commission requires anyone born on or after January 1, 1982 to hold a Boating Safety Education Certificate before operating a powered boat like our pontoons. The course is available online.

Choose a friend who is happy to stay sober and get the certificate ahead of time, or ask about a captain when you book so the whole crew can relax. Either way, settle it before you book, not on the dock.

Food, Drinks and the No Grill Rule

You bring your own food and drinks on our pontoons. Pack coolers with ice, water and whatever the bride likes, and keep it to things you can eat cold or at room temperature. Stoves and grills are not allowed on board, so skip the brunch burger plan and go with a charcuterie spread, sandwiches, fruit and plenty of snacks.

  • Bring more water than you think you need. Sun and river air dry people out fast.
  • Use cans and plastic rather than glass, which is a hazard on a wet deck.
  • Bring trash bags and take everything home with you.
  • Pack sunscreen, towels and a dry bag for phones.

Playlist, Decorations and Photo Stops

Most of our pontoons have a Bluetooth stereo, so build the playlist ahead of time and hand one phone the job for the day. Every pontoon has a bimini top for shade. If you want a banner or a few balloons, ask about it when you book, keep everything tied down and leave the confetti at home, since anything loose ends up in the river.

For photos, the Point State Park fountain with the skyline behind it is the shot everyone wants. The yellow Allegheny bridges, Mount Washington from the Monongahela, and the West End Bridge at sunset round out the set. Pull the boat into position, cut the music for a minute and let everyone get the picture.

Timing the Sunset

Sunset over the West End Bridge is the finale of a Pittsburgh bachelorette boat party. Check the sunset time for your date, then book a 4 hour block that ends about an hour after it. That gives you the golden light on the skyline, the sun dropping behind the arch, and the city lights coming on as you cruise back downriver to McKees Rocks.

Returns have a short grace window before a late charge applies, so start heading home with the sun rather than after it. Our guide on planning a sunset boat ride on Pittsburgh's rivers goes deeper on timing.

Book Early for Summer Saturdays

Bachelorette parties cluster on summer weekends, and so does everyone else. Our season runs into early October, weather permitting, and summer Saturdays go first. Book as soon as the date is set. You can reschedule up to 72 hours ahead, and if we have to cancel for weather the morning of, you can reschedule or take a full refund.

Planning a few celebrations this year? The same boat works for the perfect pontoon party on the three rivers or a birthday or anniversary on the water.

The Day Of

Arrive at Vic's Boat Park, 1 River Rd in McKees Rocks, 5 to 10 minutes early. The payer signs the waiver along with every passenger, we run through the boat and the river in a short safety briefing, and then the day is yours. Dogs are welcome if the bride's pup is part of the party.

Keep an eye on the clock, keep the driver sober, and keep the glass at home. Do those three things and a bachelorette boat party on the three rivers is about as easy as a celebration gets.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many people can come on a bachelorette boat party?

Our pontoons carry 7 to 10 people depending on the boat, and every person counts toward the limit, including the driver. For a group of 11 or more, book two pontoons and cruise together. Count your final list before you reserve so we can match you to the right boat.

Can we drink on the boat?

Passengers may bring their own drinks, but the driver must stay sober for the whole rental. Skip glass on deck, bring plenty of water, and if nobody wants to be the sober driver, ask about a captain when you book.

Do we need a boating license for a pontoon rental in Pittsburgh?

Anyone born on or after January 1, 1982 needs a Pennsylvania Boating Safety Education Certificate to drive a motorboat. The course is available online. Settle who drives before you book, or ask about a captain.

Can we bring food and decorations?

Yes. Bring your own food and drinks in coolers, with no stoves or grills on board. If you want a banner or balloons, ask about it when you book, tie them down and avoid confetti or anything loose that could blow into the river. Take all trash home with you.

How far ahead should we book a summer Saturday?

As soon as the date is set. Summer Saturdays book first and the season runs into early October, weather permitting. You can reschedule up to 72 hours ahead, and if we cancel for weather the morning of your rental you can reschedule or get a full refund.
